In the heart of the Fire Nebula, war rages across the stars.
Crown Prince Wolf Alexander-Morgan and Princess Mariella, forged in the
crucible of combat and mech warfare, stand at the forefront of a desperate counterstrike
against a ruthless empire that has already struck at their homeworlds. With
elite squadrons, aging battleships revived from slumber, and hard-won alliances
hanging by a thread, they prepare to carry the fight straight to the enemy’s
stronghold.
But victory demands more than firepower. As hidden truths surface, old grudges
resurface, and the line between ally and threat blurs, Wolf and Mariella must
navigate treacherous politics, overwhelming odds, and the weight of their own
destinies. One wrong move could doom their kingdom—or end the war in flames.
Pulse-pounding space battles, brutal ground assaults, and the clash of crowns
await in the explosive conclusion to the Valley of Fire trilogy. In a galaxy
where loyalty is tested in fire, some legends are born… and others are
extinguished.

The time has come to pay Sawyer back for all of his support and hard work.
For taking a chance on Sean when no one else would. For getting Sean the needed supplies for the war back when no one else was able to. Sawyer has always been in Sean's court and has gone above and beyond more than once.
And let's not even mention the help he's provided to Mihalis and Troy!
So the lions are off to Nighthome to help Sawyer take the crown, which in goblin society is a lot more like a hostile corporate takeover, combined with counting coup, than any kind of violence.
Hopefully.
However, as long as they're going to be in the Goblin and Dark Elves homeland, there's a little matter of taking House Uunregarten to task for a number of actions that have impacted House Valens, Sean's wife Cali, their children, and, of course, the lions. House Uunregarten is about to learn that it is never wise to piss off a lion. Especially not one who is immortal, knows magic, and is going to show up with ten thousand of his best friends to have a... few words.
This is the last Valens Heritage book. The author is grateful to all of you who have supported him for this series. However, no amount of begging, whining, crying, or screaming will change his mind. Large sums of money, however...
Also, if you see a brightly colored box with a nice ribbon on it, and it's not Christmas? Better to leave that one alone!
Last of All, I will be at FenCon this weekend in Dallas!
I'll be in the Dealers Den on Friday, Saturday, and hopefully, Sunday.

Lock & Load was a fun read.
ReplyDeleteMinor quibble about Uvalde, however. The original plague reduced male births to 1:100 going to 1:1000, and that eventually spread to Urblec. To the point that their cellmate in Elso had one brother (unusual) and gobs of sisters (including half-siblings). You don't specify the ratio that hit Urblec, but the description sounds like at least 1:10, and it's been going on for over a generation.
That doesn't fit with a pub filling up with ne'er-do-well males looking for a fight. If the society had become 10:1 females, *all* the generic jobs foreigners would see (bus driver, enforcer, politician, bartender, waiter, ...) would be dominated by women. Unless you have them locked up in harems, they'd be most of the workforce.
That would have been immediately noticed by the base. And for a pub in such a society to primarily serve men, it would in a sense resemble a gay bar - relatively rare, and making a deliberate effort to not welcome women. Which would have caused a commotion with the spacer women arriving. Someone would have told them they weren't welcome, and the women would likely have been the direct focus of the attack.
In any case, fun series, and I'm thinking of how to write an Amazon review for it. Regards.
To notice something that's not talked about, you have to be there for a while. And have been going into town for a while.
DeleteWhich they hadn't. It was mentioned that the women were very friendly and seemed to turn out in large numbers.
So the thought was the women were just interested in the visitors because they were poor and the military spacers were obviously not.
This is typical. It's expected. No one thought it was because there were less men. Because that's not typical. You see what you expect to see.
You're also assuming that the males stayed at home and the women did everything, and that there were a lot of jobs that needed doing in a failing society. There have always been more women than men in Human society, and it's only been in my lifetime that we're seeing women push into the workforce in great numbers. And only in Western Society. This is not a western society.
Understand that guys when they want to go out and just drink and bitch do NOT want to go to a bar full of women. They want to go to a bar full of, or mainly, men.
This is very common in all societies.
For a group of angry men to show up suddenly?
Look at the groups of angry women now showing up at ICE raids. Same thing. People talk and communicate. They just went somewhere they probably shouldn't have and suddenly found themselves in trouble. Seen that myself, more than once.
