Should I add explicit sex scenes?

Really, should I? I'm already accused of writing porno's, etc, even though I haven't put any explicit sex in any of my books. So should I just say 'screw it' and put that stuff in?

I mean Laura K. Hamilton has made bank off of putting explicit sex in her stories, so have a lot of other authors. It's actually hard NOT to find explicit sex scenes in a lot of stories these days, so should I just give up and do it too? Like I said above, I'm already accused of it by my many detractors.

And if so, what level of explicitness would you like to see?

  1. You do you sir, don't worry about what other people think. Most of your detractors are upset about the amount of sex in the books not how explicit it is. Honestly I plan to keep reading you books for the foreseeable future.

  2. I don't mind reading it. Who cares what they think, I plan to keep buying your books besides the main character deserves some action haha.

  3. It would be great to include some sex scenes on the level a bit more explicit than in first two books of POI.

  4. Which ever way you go I will still be buying your books. So yea not really helpful in making a decision.

What you could do is create a short novella side story with explicit scenes and see how your readers react to it. If it gets a good response might be a good idea to add it into the main POI series. If it gets a bad response well it means your readers didn't like it.

In the end its all up to you. I will still follow your writing regardless.

I'm a huge fan of all your works and plan to continuing with them, especially the POI series and other titles in the 'Infinity.'

As to your question, do what you feel is right for your stories. Some stories will have more sex and primal themes while others will be more romance and affection. And others will have characters far to busy with a quest or war to worry about anything in that vain. In addition, the main character will always impact what is appropriate. For example, William the Godslayer is a fairly loyal, respectful, and caring man. Thus, his more chaste and tasteful sex scenes (even when he was young and more wild) were very appropriate [though being a bit more descriptive and/or frequent couldn't hurt;)]. However, his sister is a more rough and tumble type and would approve a more descriptive (maybe even crude) scene.

Just my thoughts. Looking forward to your next book:)

  6. I'd leave it as it is right now: the story doesn't really rely on the "depth" of the sex description and I think you already know: if it ain't broken, don't fix it!
