I really do agree with this. They used to do such wonderful things, but they don't anymore.
As the saying goes: Shut Up and Sing. You're an entertainer, do your f**in job. This is why I try very hard to not inject politics in my books, for all that I may say political things on social media.
Because it is my job to entertain you and I struggle to try and do my best. Castigating people about their politics, their beliefs, anything at all, isn't entertaining. So I do my best to avoid that.
I've noticed that. I don't necessarily think that politics has no place whatsoever in entertainment, but I find that people who inject too much of their politics into their stories end up making it preachy, and are usually too on the nose to effectively share the message they want to share. I feel like I can tell when the author or director is speaking instead of the characters.
ReplyDeleteI've actually been surprised at your politics when reading your blogs and subscribestar. Not because they are bad or because I disagree with all of it, but because I would have expected to pick up on it more from your books. You do a great job at keeping your characters in character. That would be tough for me to do.
That said, I don't mind at all when you share your opinions and views in these areas; it's nice to see the person behind the stories.
I don't know if you'll read this but I thought it was important for you to know. I agree with this post, no matter your views on politics, within reason, should they interfere with wanting to tell a good story. Which is what you do in spades. Nor should a readers or listeners or watchers views interfere with THEIR reading, listening or watching. I can say even if I don't agree with all your views or posts on social, which I can comfortably say I don't and how it should honestly work not everyone's going to think the same nor should they. I'll never stop reading your stories. And I think that's something that everyone should belive in, regardless of whatever "side" of the "fence" they are on. Because at the end of the day. We're all fucking Americans. (That part of this comment is not directed at your international readers) that being said I hope you have awesome days in your future and that you thrive and succeed. Because that means I get more awesome and amazing books and stories to enjoy as well.
