I've been thinking of going exclusive to Amazon only of late. The biggest reason why is that's where the vast majority of my sales are. Smashwords sells a few, itunes a couple, and Barnes and Noble only a few as well.
But if I go exclusive to Amazon I can get into some of the unlimited programs, which may help garner more sales. Which is the name of the game after all.
Thoughts?
From what I have read, I would say that Amazon's new programs for authors will help new authors get started and help readers find them. I have been reading for 40yrs and have thousands of books. I have recently quit buying anything but Kindle books. I read a ton and Amazon has helped me find authors. It is how I came to enjoy your books after all.
ReplyDeleteI have just read your 3 Portals of Infinity books and enjoyed them - they are light reading, lots of adventure, not a lot of agonizing and worrying, nice people, etc.
ReplyDeleteI only buy Kindle books, so this comment applies to that environment.
I read for escapism, I program for working (actually I enjoy it as much as reading).
So why this comment???
Thought you might want to know my criteria for buying a book:
1. light reading - adventure, mystery, detective, western (not many of those - too predictable), sci-fi, etc.
2. Almost never spend more than $2.99 for a book - and not that much if it is a fairly short book.
- WHY? I read fast so I go thru a lot of books and money would become an issue
- WHY? I pick books mostly at random, and won't do that if price is more than $3 - when I like what I read, I go looking for other books by the same author but still won't spend over $3 - in your case, I just went back to Amazon and bought the rest of your books that were not real short and which cost less than $3.00.
Maybe that algorithm is common??? might consider it in your pricing!
- there is an awful lot of competition out there
By the way - I am very good with the English language, and the typo's and other errors in our Infinity series were rather irritating - but not bad enough to stop me from enjoying the stories - I do not know the economics of proofreading, but all my life I have been thinking I should be a proofreader because I find a lot more errors than other people seem to - I it makes sense, my I should try doing that for you books - have no idea about the expense/cost of doing that!
Hey - I found you because I share a lot of readers with you. I wrote the Fovean Chronicles. I went exclusively Amazon - I make a little more money than when I was spread out, actually, because I can take advantage of the KDP benefits.
ReplyDeleteWould love to talk to you about how you network - you're better at it than I am
