Why does Amazon allow 1 & 2 star reviews on my books by non-verified customers?

I only ask this because I gave a 2 star review to something I received for my birthday, bought via Amazon.
And they deleted it.

  1. Obviously they have already deleted the offending reviews.

  2. I've posted reviews on books I've read from the library or borrowed from a friend. I'd like to think they are still out there, but the fact of the matter is... that more people feel the need to warn others away from bad books. That's bad for sales overall. So they have several bots set up to troll for and delete posts containing negative words, or deleting non-verified reviews under 4 stars. Things like that. There's probably a total review or download threshold that needs to be met first to trigger it though. I can't imagine Amazon hiring a human to do the job manually.
